Rough Creek Lodge | "Florida visits Texas" Allison & Ryan, the full film

Look at those smiles.  Just look at them.  This image is a still shot from the moment when Allison and Ryan stepped out of the rustic hall where they were married. They were met by the pealing of bells, the sweet scent of lavender as it was being tossed, and the cheers of their family members.  To me, this says "sheer bliss."

See it for yourself.  In our previous post, we featured their wedding video preview, so here is their wedding film, from the sweet beginning to the rock'n'roll end.

Allison and Ryan were married in early June 2012 at the gorgeous and sprawling Ranch resort called Rough Creek Lodge, just outside of Glenrose, Texas.

Allison and Ryan are Florida Natives, but they chose this rustic setting for their wedding partially because of all the fun recreational and relaxing activity options it provides for families, couples, and children.   Allison also mentioned to me that day that she had attended a friend's wedding there previously, and from that point on she and Ryan had been charmed by the complete sense of peace surrounding the setting.  We could tell that their family had an amazing time, and the way they sweetly doted on Allison and Ryan.  One of the most heartfelt moments of the evening culminated in Allison's parents' presentation and speech during the reception where they shared the importance of the history of their family and how proud they are of their children who are all very intelligent, successful, and kind individuals.

We can't get enough of this moment from Allison's wedding where her mother and sister helped her finalize her bridal detals.  Their love and outward displays of affection for Allison were simply precious.

Allison and Ryan, Thank you for letting us be a part of capturing these kind and tender moments in your family's life.  We wish you all the best that life can offer, and we already know you have the drive and passion to find it.

We paused to briefly capture some sunset shots before entering the reception. The light was gorgeous.  Kym Skiles from F8 studios in DFW/Addison, TX was there to photograph the day.  We can't say enough great things about Kym's work or her amazing sense of humor.  We love working alongside her.

The lodge has a great hall with a grand fireplace just off-center.  This shot shows only 2/3 of the room.  This scene would later hold the moment where Allison's grandmother catches the bouquet and gets a kiss on the cheek from her own grandson, who caught the garter. It was pretty hilarious.

The talented people at Blue Lotus Floral did a stunning job with the table centerpieces.  As you can see, they put together a mixture of high and low arrangements that complemented Allison's color choices very well, incorporating the lavender of the bridesmaid's dresses with pink accents.

This candy table was taken up a notch from normal candy tables, filled with a mixture of homemade versions of store-famous brands and delicate artisan-created dessert snacks.  The groom's cake was a sports themed cake with a baseball cap on top.  While the cap design and construction is expertly put together by the decorators at Frosted Art, my favorite detail is the baseline with bases running around the top part of the first tier of this square, or, rather diamond-shaped cake.

Allison & Ryan also had a cute idea for how to make their photobooth photos a part of their party favors. At each table was an envelope that read "Thank you for making our day picture perfect."  The good folks at Snapzsnapz made sure that Allison & Ryan got a keepsake copy of each print out, but they sent the guests home with their own copies in these cute envelopes.

Four Seasons Hotel Austin | "Let's Do This!" Sara & Ben, the full film

Sara had "let's do this" inscribed on cufflinks for Ben to wear on their wedding day, and we think that phrase is perfect to describe the excitement of their day.  Please enjoy their upbeat, tender, and at times, giggle-filled wedding film.

Austin, TX - Sara & Ben are truly warm-hearted friends and devoted to their families.  Sara handmade gifts for each of her bridesmaids, and wrapped them in personalized chevron and yellow bags.

The bride also had a sweet note embroidered on a handkerchief for different people. This first is for her mother-in-law, and it reads "thank you for raising your son to be the man of my dreams."

When the time came for Ben to place the ring on Sara's hand, the couple caught a fit of giggles.  Throughout the day--as they took portraits at the capitol, addressed their family through speeches, and danced with their grandparents at the reception, their love & joy was quite visible.  Sara's maid of honor gave a toast, and in it she said that although she had been able to keep Sara to herself for so many years, she was so glad that Ben was joining them--because even Thelma and Louise had a Brad Pitt.   Not a bad compliment!

WE LOVE AUSTIN

In light of Sara and Ben's passion for the city of Austin, we did our best to find local musical acts to license music for their wedding video.  The first and last songs are from Austin bands you shouldn't miss out on-- Rock pop quartet The Quiet Company, and the folk rock sensation that is currently being backed by Ben Kweller--Wild Child.

Sara and Ben, thank you for choosing us to be your Austin filmmaker and create your wedding video for you to enjoy for years to come.

Lafayette Petroleum Club | "It's Good to be Heather!" - Heather & Beau, Part 1 of 2

Bridesmaids bustled through the mahogany classical living room as they finalized their makeup the morning of Heather and Beau's wedding.  Outside, the humidity gathered on the windows and the petals of the honeysuckle outside the front door, as if it wanted to peek in on the house's festivities.  A grand chandelier loomed over the dining room table where a lace-covered umbrella waited to find if it would be required to shield the bride in the event of rain.

"It's good to be Heather!" said her mother as Heather opened presents from Beau and family right before she slipped into her wedding dress.  Smiling in agreement, Heather nodded her head.  And it is good to be loved by Heather, we must add.  By the time you finish reading this, you'll agree, too!  Heather and her parents created an event with Tod Viator (designer) that would knock the socks off of everyone in town. It was filled with heavenly surprises for the guests around each corner.

For example, Heather had handkerchiefs made for each bridesmaid to remind them of her love for them.  Below is pictured the one she carried along with her own bouquet.

Truly, the details of this wedding will stun you--but the love of this family will also leave your heart feeling so full.

Heather made sure there was room for both her photographer and for me, her wedding videographer, to ride with her family to the wedding ceremony from her home where she got ready.  I loved the anticipation in that limo--the air was thick with joy and excitement.  This still is from the moment when Heather and her father caught sight of the church, where a harpist played under a canopied entrance to greet the guests.

The pink roses (in shades of Steel Magnolias blush and bashful) adorned the aisleway of the cathedral and the front.  For the ceremony, Beau wore a cream tux jacket, and he slipped into a darker coat with white bow tie for the evening party.  Very formal, and very fashionable!

Their magical entryway.

Below, Beau had a parrot-themed cake.  His mother explained that he loves parrots and chose that animal as a part of his email as a young man, and has never changed his personal email account since.

Quite fantastic!

One of my favorite moments occurred when Heather's mom shed a happy tear as she watched Heather and Beau cut the wedding cake.  It never fails--every parent has a moment during their child's wedding where the blessings of the gathering of friends and family is so overwhelming.  We're just happy to be there to help you remember those blessings in the future.  Heather and Beau, thanks for choosing us to document your day.

Backyard Wedding /// The Best That You Can Find /// Morgan + Ben, the full film

"For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul." -Judy Garland

Morgan is calm, kind, and warm-hearted.   She told us that Ben, the groom, is smart and focused. We have to agree after hearing their engagement story!  Morgan was apparently under the impression that Ben was going to wait a few months to propose--her sister (the maid-of-honor-to-be ) was about to leave for a four month trip around the world, after all.  Morgan had planned a party to celebrate Ben's 30th birthday, his best man's MBA graduation and her sister's MBA graduation, which all happened to be on the same night.  You see this coming, don't you? Friends in town, Family in town, unsuspecting bride.  You bet Ben is smart!  He surprised her at a private dinner beforehand, proposed, and then they went out to celebrate with all of their friends and family!  Morgan told us "it was a perfect night."

Enjoy their full wedding film!

This loving bunch rejoined together to celebrate Morgan and Ben in Texarkana at the historic victorian family home belonging to Morgan's grandfather.

Our favorite moment:

We can tell you this much about this wedding film:  We won't forget the tender tears of joy that Morgan shed as she triumphantly held up her hand with her wedding ring after being pronounced husband and wife.

The Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner took place at The Silvermoon Great Hall on Broad.  The authentic mexican buffet was  accented with table decor of extremely vivid roses in orange, yellow, mango, and the toasts were just as vivid.   Ben's brother joked that although the lessons he's learned  from his brother growing up came in the form of a choke-hold, Ben had taught him what it meant to be a good man, and, he was looking forward to Ben and Morgan teaching him what it meant to be a good family in the future. (see minute 5:50 in the video).  The toasts went long into the night, joyful, loving, hilarious, and full of honor and respect.

We really enjoy being able to add these kinds of moments into a wedding film, because these are the stories of a bride and groom's life--both before and after they met and fell in love, and a wedding is a symbolic representation of all of the work that it took to get to that day.  Being able to interweave the stories told by friends and loved ones into a film adds a strong emotional and story-telling element to a wedding video, almost like a time capsule.

The Wedding Day

When we arrived for the day, morgan's dress was hanging in the front bedroom, waiting for her, and the activity outside was cheerful.

The beading detail on Morgan's lace wedding dress had ivory magnolias, perfect for a southern bride. Morgan's entrance to her wedding was epic--she came sweeping around the white picket fence into view of friends and family with her father.  The sun was gently glittering through the trees.

Morgan also made some stylistic choices with her wedding that we thought were so artistic:  Watercolor signs.  The rehearsal dinner table decor was a more saturated version of the wedding day colors. The wedding dinner plates were a collection of different china patterns.  And at a backyard wedding, all of the other table  service was (so elegant) silver.  A ruffled white wedding cake with natural, real flowers on top.

Super 8 Film: A Vintage Wedding Movie | "You Add to His Life" - Mara + James, part 1 of 2

Filmed by Chris P. Jones
Edited by Kourtney Amelia Schopper

Your wedding day is both something you look forward to, enjoy the experience, and remember with great fondness.  Personally, I recommend that you try to approach all three phases surrounding your wedding with the same level of care and consideration that you give to the actual wedding day experience.  That being said, the ways you plan to help yourself remember the day are truly important.  Whether that is through tokens and gifts that you exchange on a wedding day or your wedding film and photography, it is important for you to be true to yourself and select things that reflect you as a couple.

If you're looking for a unique idea for your wedding video, maybe you should consider having it documented on actual FILM. There are several choices that filmmakers like us can offer to you--from 8mm, super 8, to 16mm, the images will take your breath away.  My goodness! No matter how long we have been filming on Super 8 film, I am always amazed at the beauty of the images we get back from the developers.   This video is beautiful! (I can get away with bragging about the footage because I didn't film it, Jones did.)   We love the look of film--we always have.   It gives both a rustic and timeless quality to a wedding film--a vintage style that can't be replaced.   Film handles light differently and more organically than the way that digital cameras do, and because of that, the quality of the moving images is always breathtaking and surprising.

Super8 Vintage 8mm Film Wedding Video Pic 08

If you're not familiar with super8,  the process is simple, but different than digital filmmaking: with digital, we have all the footage that instant--which is what allows us to do fun things like same-day-edit films on site at a wedding.  But film takes time.  After we come and film with you on your day, the film has to be processed at a developer (just like the old days!), who then digitizes it at the highest quality so that we can put together a video that has the true look and feel of film, but doesn't require you to own a projector. Win-win.

Another bonus that you'll have over your parents 1960s film is that we can record audio during your day and sync it up--so you still get to hear your vows, toasts, and other moments that matter to you.  Win-win-win.  So, if what you like is the vintage look and the feel of film,  this is for you!

The couple left in a sparkler exit.  Make sure to watch this moment in the video---sparklers produce a really cool effect on film.

Super8 Vintage 8mm Film Wedding Video Pic 13

Some couples are best reflected in an energetic, fast-paced HD video, and others in a reflective, personal film on super8 film, and still more enjoy a mixture of both. We do our best as filmmakers to honor your personality and your community in the artistic style that we edit your film, but the format and style in which we actually film your wedding are up to you in many respects--you only need to share your vision with us.
