The romance!  The dogs!  The Art!  Get ready for a sweet film. Rob waited a long time to find MaryEllen--in fact, he gave his bride a ring on the wedding day with a diamond for each decade that he waited for her. Between Rob's sweet romantic gestures, MaryEllen's stunning beauty, their flower girls' antics, and the ways they incorporated their love for art and for their dogs into their wedding day, their story is sure to make you smile.

When we arrived at MaryEllen's Crown Plaza hotel room, photographer Taylor Lord was also just arriving to document the day.  We've worked with Taylor before, and she's always great to work alongside.  Edric's crew from Vanity Lounge was already in the midst of styling MaryEllen's hair and makeup.  Her flower girls scampered about like little fairies, bringing delight with each sparkle in their eye and each grin.  Meanwhile, at the house, the bartenders, chef, and waitstaff were already prepping a food course that just to describe will make your mouth water--including bite size smoked sausage with spiced poached apple, potato truffle waffle duck confit, tomato water shooters with buffalo mozzarella and basil foam, bacon wrapped jalapeño, and quail with sweet potato hash (and that's not even half of the hors d' oeuvres list).  Mouth watering yet?

The dessert table towered with a variety of cookies and cakes, including cookies designed to look like Gracie and Barcley, the furry pups that are owned by MaryEllen & Rob.  As the flower girls marveled at the dog-shaped cookies, adult guests were able to enjoy signature cocktail drinks named after Gracie and Barcley.

Seated on wooden pews in the backyard, friends and family gathered together all dressed in cream and buttery soft hues to celebrate the happiness of the bride and groom.

Custom water-color style script signage by Houston creative studio Papellerie beckoned guests to leave their mark on the large oil painting being created at the wedding reception. The bride commissioned the groom's favorite artist (Taft McWhorter) to create an oil painting on site at the wedding, and it was an awesome surprise gift for the groom.

The bride and groom have already collected several pieces of Taft McWhorter's abstract work, including a large typographical style painting with the lyrics to one of their favorite songs by Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors.  It seemed to make perfect sense to us that we had to license that particular song for  MaryEllen & Rob's wedding film once we saw what a beautiful vision its lyrics were casting for their home.  (P.S. Fun Fact about our crew: both Jones and Kourtney Amelia got to participate in the filming of Drew Holcomb's music video for "The Wine We Drink" in Jan 2012 through a workshop with The Music Bed.  We love that band!)    The lyrics say:

If I had a great big mansion

I'd rather live in a shot gun shack with you

If I drove a red ferrari

I'd rather ride in an oldsmobile with you

If I won a million dollars

I'd give it away to spend more time with you

If I had a million lovers

I would trade 'em all for just one more night with you

With you I can be myself

With you I don't have to be somebody else

It's like putting on my favorite pair of shoes

I like to be me when I'm with you

Their officiant told the couple during the ceremony:  "The bible says, 'you saw me before I was born, every day of my life was recorded in your book, every moment was laid out before a single day has passed."  The ceremony is over in a few moments, but what really matters is the lifetime that you're going to spend together."

We couldn't agree more!  Congratulations to MaryEllen & Rob, and thank you for choosing us to create an heirloom artwork to help you remember each moment of your very special day for a lifetime.

Laguna Gloria || Elope to Austin || Caroline + Christopher, the full film

Every so often we get the opportunity to film something off-beat and utterly unique.  Thanks to Caroline and Chris, we got that opportunity this past weekend.  You see, they eloped....and they invited us to create their wedding film.  Caroline & Chris met thanks to their collegiate swim team in Florida, and the athletes also share a passion for culinary skills, and dogs.  Caroline came home one day to discover an engagement ring taped to the wall calendar, and the rest is history.

Although Caroline & Chris joked about being competitive about who would have the best vows and make the other one cry more, I have to say I think it is a tie--their vows were so personal, honest and touching.  We worked alongside Sean Hsueh withDay 7 Photography for the day, and we loved his approach to our shared work--he truly allows for events to unfold naturally without intervention, and the results are beautiful. Click through the link to see the beautiful wedding photos he created for Caroline & Chris on his blog.

Although they currently call San Antonio their home, these two athletic, dog-loving foodies decided to have their destination wedding & elopement weekend in Austin because of its centrality in Texas, and its amazing urban atmosphere. On the way to the ceremony, they talked about all the awesome eateries they planned on visiting throughout the weekend.  After getting to know them, I had to wonder how they're not Austinites already! (For those not in the know, Austin is not only the live music capitol of the world, but it also boasts some of the fittest citizens, most finely muraled communities, the prettiest hill country, the finest foods, and the most pro-canine businesses. We even have a pub with a dog park attached!)

So, these two lovebirds cooked for a week to prep the food for their reception, rented a cottage for the reception, and headed over to ATX.  Caroline shares my mutual affection for the lovely garden and amazing architecture at Laguna Gloria, and they couldn't have picked a prettier spot for a small private ceremony.  Despite the rain that alternated between sputtering and pouring, we had a paradise of sunshine at sunset--which was right as we walked out for the ceremony, and Jones even caught a hint of a double rainbow for the video.

If you're loving the uber-hip bungalow that Caroline & Chris rented, you're not alone.  The kitchen remodel was featured in HGTV's magazine, and you can check it out on their site, too.  In addition to the stunning industrial lighting and sunny retro feel of the interior, the backyard is a tiny paradise of raised bed gardens, an urban chicken coop, an outdoor stone oven, and it is available for rent through air bnb.

Boot Ranch in Fredericksburg, TX || Arrows in the Sky || Erin + Andrew, the full film

We are so thrilled to share this wedding film with you.  Their wedding was both a touching experience and imaginatively designed to create a delightful soiree for all of their friends and family.  Not only do Erin and Andrew have a delightful sense of style that is both tailored, preppy, and bohemian all at once, but their joyful spirits are extremely infectious.  In fact, while I was editing their film, my face was sore from smiling so much.  And now that we're sharing the film, your face can be sore because of extended amounts of smiling, too!

Erin's dress was stunning--mermaid cut with a fluted skirt that extravagantly trained behind her.  Not only did she wear a dress made of the most luxuriously draped gauzy tulle that we've ever seen, but her accessories were stunning-- something bleu shoes accented by white feathers.

The hill-top Christian ceremony was breath-taking, and Erin descended through a stair-case linked arms with her father.  The modern, romantic music selections for the wedding ceremony included songs by The Arcade Fire.  Listening to the songs they chose for their wedding day heavily influenced the music we selected for the film--the opening song is a lilting, hopeful song by  siren singer-songwriter Holly Maher filled with soaring tones of violin and cello with lilting melody created by a light piano.

Erin's mother is doting, and her father is hilarious--which created that same combination in her siblings, who totally ham it up with Erin throughout the photography sessions.

As we mentioned in a previous post, we were thrilled to work alongside noted fashion photographer Christianne Taylor at this wedding.  She's based in California, but she often returns to her native state of Texas to document special projects.  We've worked with her before at Sarah & Colby's ranch estate wedding, and it was delightful to work with her again.

In our first post about Erin & Andrew's wedding,  we told you the story of how they almost didn't have a wedding cake, which is a precious story, but now, I want to tell you about what Andrew's dad said.

As guests sipped from glass soda bottles with these adorable DIY soda straw flags, Andrew's dad gave a heartfelt speech thanking the people who brought Erin and Andrew together, and how he felt that Erin and Andrew were like arrows shooting through the sky.  Psalm 127 speaks of how children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior's hands, and how they will return to bless their parents.

"we also feel excitement at watching these two young people start their flight together," he said.

We could tell that Andrew's dad was already so thankful for the blessing of his son, and of his new daughter-in-law.   Congratulations to you both, Erin and Andrew.  We hope you are always able to reflect back to the joy of this celebration and how it was just the beginning of new laughter and adventures in your life.

Boot Ranch in Fredericksburg, TX | "We'll Eat You Up, We Love You So!" - Erin & Andrew, the preview

Erin and Andrew almost didn't have a wedding cake.

Not that they didn't want one--Erin was just interested in other desserts--maybe pie, or an assortment of treats.  As they planned for the wedding, Erin made many selections for the party that were incredibly unique, from an off-shoulder wedding gown to a Kongming Chinese Sky Lantern release at the reception...but her brother jokingly begged for a traditional cake--Erin mentioned to me that he said "it can't be a wedding without a cake"--so she chose a traditional white tiered cake, and included a cake topper with a quote from their favorite childhood book (Where the Wild Things Are) in honor of his request.

In this way, Erin and Andrew's hilltop wedding in the Fredericksburg countryside was full of surprises and special touches that were themed around not only their love, but their family as well.  In fact, they had a gorgeous painting that held all the dinner placecards, and one of Erin's brothers painted that, too.  Also, guests sipped from these cute little soda straws during the cocktail hour as they watched the sun set.

Erin selected florals for the wedding that were very reflective of the wedding's location in the rustic and wild Texas countryside.  The men's boutonnieres had both succulents and other hardy plants native to the region.

If you haven't visited Fredericksburg before, it is one of those special towns nestled into the hill-country where people love to spend the weekend--You can wander through streets filled with quaint little bakeries, wineries and breweries, toy-shops boasting the skills of the town's german/european heritage, and of course, many restaurants overflowing with German food and good Texas eats.   Just before the ceremony, some of Andrew's friends remarked at the beauty of the short drive from the little town to the hills where Boot Ranch resides. The road, filled with twists and turns, ends at the gorgeous hilltop lodge, a perfect party venue with craftsman architecture and a terrace made of natural stone overlooking the hills.

Erin and Andrew had a private moment in a hillside garden just before the ceremony.  Photographers commonly refer to this as a "first look."  We were thrilled to work alongside noted fashion photographer Christianne Taylor at this wedding.  She's based in California, but she often returns to her native state of Texas to document special projects.  We've worked with her before at Sarah & Colby's ranch estate wedding, and it was delightful to work with her again.

Bailey and JR are the kind of people who keep a room lit up with smiles and laughter.  We were thrilled to travel from Austin, where we are based, to the Texas foothills north of San Antonio to create this wedding video for such a precious couple.   Beyond their absolutely SWEET love for each other, they kept their family and friends entertained at their wedding with multiple surprises--their outdoor sunset ceremony ended with a gospel choir serenading the crowd and guiding them to the location of the dancing reception.  Their first dance transitioned from serious to sassy in a heartbeat, and boy, can they dance!   Later on that night, JR's family also surprised him in turn with a funny flashmob dance.  Here is their entire wedding film, in full:

Ashley Garmon, the wedding photographer,  chose a lovely location under the trees for the portraits before the wedding.  The soft light coming through the leaves looked beautiful with the bridesmaids' pale green sundresses.

Their decor included a stag-head theme.  Each reception table centerpiece was set with a silhouette of a deer head laser-cut into pine slices.

Talented event designer Tricia Hamil (Viridian Design) even had a deer silhouette pattern made for the lights that projected the antler silhouette onto the dancefloor.  Surrounded by wine barrel tables, old-fashioned light bulb chandelieres, live oak canopies, rustic signs, white florals, and warm lighting, the guests were happy to dance the night away and feast on such greatness as the avocado buffet and even sneak inside to watch portions of the Baylor football game between songs.
