Houston Wedding Video | Montesito Ranch - Sarah & Colby

Montesito Ranch wedding screen grab from Houston wedding video

I don't know if you've heard, but here in Texas, it's kinda dry. Ok, that may be the understatement of the year. It's tinderbox dust bowl drought spittin' cotton kinda dry.

At about 2 p.m. Saturday, I stood on the porch of the Montesito ranch, listening to Jan, the lady of the ranch and mother of the bride. "You see those trees off in the distance? I had to explain to some of our northern visitors that they aren't turning orange because autumn has come."

I ventured on down to the stables to chat with the foreman Carlos as he washed off the Polaris for Sarah and Colby's getaway.  "Are those storm clouds rolling in,"  I asked.  "I hope so," he responded without blinking an eye.

You know it's dire when the foreman doesn't mind it raining on his boss' daughter's outdoor wedding, scheduled to begin in about an hour.  Perhaps he was just wishing good luck upon the couple as the superstition purports.

Either way, he got his wish. 45 minutes before the wedding, shortly before guests were to arrive, I wouldn't say that the bottom fell out, but it wasn't holding on by more than a few threads.

Rather than putting a damper on things, the rain seemed to bring life to the setting, much like it does with flora and fauna in a desert-scape that hasn't seen precipitation in months.  Smiling guests began to arrive in their Sunday finest; then out walked a band of handsome, polished soldiers and a coterie of beautiful bridesmaids...and then last, but not least, a radiant bride look resplendent in her unique wedding dress.

As the ceremony progressed, the sun peeked through the clouds with magic hour hues, casting a golden glow under the tent across all the beautiful creation as if God himself wanted to spotlight his handiwork and let everyone see that it is good.

And good only got better from there on out.

Sarah and Colby, thanks for having us out to film your wedding video.  We look forward to telling your story, and letting it act as water and life to others.

Escondido Golf & Lake Club | Autumn Sunset Wedding - Whitney & Geoff

The reception decor by Townsley Designs from a wedding video screen grab

October 1st marked the first day in about the last 130 in which the high temperature didn't reach 90 degrees.  With a hint of autumn in the air, we had the privilege of shooting the wedding video for Whitney & Geoff.   Whitney has fantastic tastes (how many brides do you know that take a designer dress and add their own design touches?  Well, that's what Whitney did, and  her dress was a gauzy silk & tulle dream, making her appear to be floating as she danced.... AMAZING

Sonoma California Vineyard Wedding - Michelle + Jens

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/29684852[/vimeo]

Recently, I had the pleasure of flying into San Francisco and driving up to Sonoma to create the wedding video of Michelle and Jens.

If you recognize Michelle from past work, you are quite observant. Along with her sister Marianne, Michelle produced this tribute film for their mother's birthday party in 2007.  That was my first trip to the Bay Area, and I've longed for their summers ever since.

Michelle and Jens' Sonoma wedding was held at their family home in wine country, and you couldn't have asked for prettier surroundings and more perfect weather to celebrate with family and friends.  Michelle's bridesmaids carried tropical pink parasols that matched their wedding bouquets as they posed for poolside pictures, and to our great surprise, all of the guests had their own pink umbrella during the outdoor wedding ceremony.  It made for such a breathtaking moment as they all stood with their parasols when Michelle walked down the aisle with her proud "father of the bride."

Guests came from as far away as Germany, England, France, Peru, and all parts throughout the United States.  The reception food, wine, and music was eclectic to say the least.  In Bavaria, it is a wedding tradition to give a fruit tree as a gift to a couple to represent hope for a life of fruitfulness in children, health and wealth.  Jens' father sweetly gifted a tree to Michelle and Jens at their wedding reception.

Michelle and Jens', thanks for choosing me as your Sonoma wedding videographer, inviting me in once again to document the spirit and richness of your family experience.

Dallas Wedding Video at Park Cities Baptist + Union Station: Laura and John

Laura called me last December and we played phone tag for a while.  When I finally caught her at work, we chatted for a bit, and she expressed that Mason Jar Films had to shoot her wedding video because she had been a fan from her earliest college days. After we hung up, I thought, "wow, this woman is an extremely NICE person, like, beyond NICE."  I could practically feel her welcoming eye contact through the iPhone. :->

We had produced the wedding videos for many of Laura's friends, including Wynne & Stephen and Kate & Bill, so we were not surprised in the least to be surrounded at the rehearsal dinner by a host of warm, loving, and loyal friends that toasted the couple's many virtues. Laura and John have truly invested themselves in dozens of people throughout their lives - they are inspiring examples of how to love your brother and sister intensely.

The most intense love, though, was clearly between John and Laura. John proclaimed his devotion to Laura in such a way at the rehearsal dinner that almost made a wedding ceremony unnecessary! After we left DUO, I couldn't believe that more awaited us the next day! The next day brought treat after treat, from small moments between the couple and their parents, to Laura's epic entrance with a live cover of a Sigur Ros tune, to the gospel choir singing them back the other way. When we are commissioned to produce a wedding video, these are the instances of which we dream!

Hands down, this is the most fun "Father of the Bride" throne we've ever seen at a wedding--what a great idea!

Laura and John, you guys are amazing, and your strong commitment to one another reminds us of why we do what we do. Thank you for inviting Mason Jar Films to be your Dallas wedding videographer, letting us into your inner circle for a wisp of time to document this experience for all time.

San Antonio Wedding Video - Cara and Josh Part I

[vimeo width="640" height="360"]http://vimeo.com/25929137[/vimeo]

Last week, I mentioned how I was not present at Claire and Ben's Austin wedding (which Kourtney and Chance were filming) at Hyatt Lost Pines because I was filming Cara and Josh's San Antonio wedding - so the opposite was true, that Kourtney did not film Cara and Josh's wedding video in San Antonio because she was in Austin.  Ok, duh Jones.

But I have a point here - and that is, that in shooting wedding videos for couples who have surrounded themselves with the people of their story and have made their wedding fit their personality, then the editing of those wedding videos comes naturally and freely as if we had known the couple all our lives.

Hats off to Kourtney for editing most of Cara and Josh's wedding video, even though, like Claire and Ben for me, she has never met them.  Just as with Claire and Ben, through the heartfelt toasts of the guests and the tender moments everywhere in between, Cara and Josh took the risk to show us who they are, and we trust that the wedding video is a reflection of the beauty they have shown us.

Thanks again to Cara's mother Leslie who sought us out in the weeks before Cara and Josh were engaged.  When you place such a high value on the documentation of the best times of life, we become even more intense about bring our best back to you.  Thank y'all for choosing Mason Jar Films as your wedding videographer over all others.  We look forward to showing you part two in the near future!
