AUSTIN WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER | WHY SUPER 8 WEDDING FILMS?

With the advent of such superior High Definition technology, one might ask why super 8 wedding films? New cameras, such as the Canon 5d Mark II and the Canon 7D produce such stunning imagery for the cinematic wedding films being shot today.  A wedding video has never looked more spectacular, with clarity and depth that rivals Hollywood 35mm cameras. If you search for an Austin Wedding Videographer today, chances are that 99% of all of those listed will be taking the cinematic HD wedding video route.  Take a look at the screen grab below to see how beautiful those images can be:

While most Austin wedding photographers have also gone the digital route, there are very few artists who are purists and use the ancient art of shooting on film for weddings, whether it’s 35mm photos, or super8 wedding film.  Compare the image above to the image below, and notice the difference:

SUPER 8 WEDDING FILMMAKERS

With a a super 8 wedding film, a bride is making a style choice in addition to documenting an event. She is finding that the look of super 8 film unites with the design of her wedding.  In the super8 wedding screen grab above, notice the nostalgic, grainy look of the imagery.  If a bride is looking to have a vintage wedding or a rustic themed wedding, then the look of the super 8 wedding video will maintain the vintage wedding feel in the preservation of experience.  Therefore, having a super8 wedding may not be for every bride.

Since super 8 film only comes in 3 minute cartridges, as super 8 wedding filmmakers, we are very judicious in what we shoot throughout the day. The bride will not get a literal moment by moment representation of what happened in her wedding video; rather, she will receive an artistic representation of the emotions therein.

Because I do not appear to be shooting all the time, there are a few Austin wedding photographers who have asked me to train them to shoot super8 wedding videos because they believe that they can do that as well as the stills. Bride beware! If you want a photographer who is going to create stunning pictures, they must be focused on one thing at a time. Any wedding photographer worth his or her salt will be too busy shooting photographs at the wedding to really focus on documenting the motion. The same goes for wedding videographer who create cinematic HD wedding videos. They must focus on either shooting video, or shooting film.
