Belo Mansion, Dallas /// #nicksgettingmaryed /// Mary + Nick, The Locket

The Proposal (as told by Mary) When Nick turned 35 in August, I thought it was a great excuse to plan a big trip! I called his sister Traci and we decided to book a surprise trip for Nick and me and Traci and her husband Mark to go to Napa. Knowing how much Nick loves wine and how frequently he used to visit Napa when he lived in California, it seemed like the perfect place to celebrate. Little did I realize that he was secretly planning to propose while we were there! On our second day, we had been to a couple wineries in the morning before we got to Quintessa. Our tour guide Emily drove us up a hill where we looked out over gorgeous views of the valley. I was busy taking pictures when Nick came up to me, put his arm around my shoulder and asked, "Couldn't you just do this for the rest of our lives?" I responded (still unsure of what was about to happen), "Yes, let's go to Napa every year!!" He smiled, got down on one knee, and said "I want to do this with you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?" I shrieked, incredibly surprised and almost forgot to say "Yes!" (but I did). Traci and Mark were a few feet behind us snapping photos like the one above and we spent the rest of the trip celebrating!     Vendors: Planner: Stephanie Brouillette | Keestone Events Ceremony: First United Methodist Church Reception/Catering: Belo Mansion Photographer: Joseph Mark Photograpy Florist: Fleurs de France

Lost Mission /// One Less Fish In The Sea /// Lindsey + Cooper, The Heirloom Film

Fate has a funny way of showing itself - especially when you attend an event where you meet your future wife after your mother says “Find a nice, German girl at the festival.” It could be fate, or it could be mother’s intuition. Whatever it is, Lindsey and Cooper were destined to meet that day 12 years ago and “Prost!” their way to a long and happy life together. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, Lindsey and Cooper became husband and wife on the most perfect spring day at Lost Mission in Spring Branch. Lindsey wore a stunning heirloom ring that had been passed down from her Great-Grandmother and worn by 6 other members of her family. It was clear that Lindsey and Cooper put much of themselves and their personalities into the decor - from the fish and coastal themed cakes showcasing their love of fishing together to the wine barrel bearing their new names and displaying their love of all things wine and Napa! One of their closest friends owns a winery in the Napa valley and was the most perfect officiant for Lindsey and Cooper’s ceremony: telling anecdotes and jokes that wonderfully represented Lindsey and Cooper’s relationship and love for life. Wine flowed and dancing commenced and lasted all night long! Lindsey’s parents gushed over their daughter and new son. Larry Taylor, Lindsey’s father, even mentioned how Cooper knew exactly when to ask for his daughter’s hand: during a fishing trip when the fish were biting extremely well! Lindsey shared the proposal story with us: Cooper made us dinner reservations for a nice dinner on a Monday at 5:00pm. I thought that 5pm was a little early to have dinner but I was not going to say anything because I knew this restaurant was popular and hard to get into. Earlier that day he told me that he read on a private scuba diving blog that there was a hammerhead shark spotted at Smith Cove. Needless to say all day Monday he was talking about how he wanted to go to Smith Cove and look for the shark. Ironically, I had just read an article about a hammerhead shark spotted near shore, but the article I read the shark was in Florida. Cooper said that I stumped him when I told him that, so he was scrambling to get the ins and outs of his story to make me still believe him. As we were driving to dinner he asked if we could stop into Smith Cove. We get out of the car and I notice there are tons of swimmers and snorkelers. We are walking around the beach at Smith Cove and Cooper tells me that he wants to get a closer look and wants to walk out on the limestone coral rocks to better see the water. He takes off and turns around and notices that I am still on the beach. He asked me to follow him and I told him I could not walk on the rocks because I had wedge shoes on and I would break my ankle! He tries to convince me, but I am rather stubborn. When I noticed his frustration and him talking between his teeth I took my shoes off and walked out on the sharp rocks. We stood over the water looking for this shark, I turned to look back at the beach and when I turned back to Cooper, he was on one knee! Lindsey + Cooper, Once again, getting to know y’all and hearing stories about your amazing adventures was incredibly special to us! We were moved watching you both interact with your family and friends, clearly seeing the love you all share for one another. You’ve truly found your one fish in the sea. Philbrook Museum of Art /// Forever Kind of Love /// Emelie + Eric, The Memory Tin

Faith is like the wind, you cannot see it, but you can feel it.  It is a rare instance to find someone with a faith so strong that it seems to be a palpable, living thing - and even more rare when two of these someones find each other in life. But Eric and Emelie did indeed find each other, and their wedding at the Philbrook Museum of Art was a true celebration of their love and devotion, not only to the other, but to God and their families as well. https://vimeo.com/175616559 Emelie’s gown was stunning with long, jeweled sleeves in a vintage shade. She looked every bit the beautiful bride as she was escorted down the aisle by her parents.   A full choir burst into song, singing “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee” as Emelie and Eric were pronounced husband and wife by their officiant, who just happened to be Emelie’s father! Their vows were perfectly coordinated with matching bible verses that fit perfectly with their ceremony. What would a wedding be without cake! Emelie and Eric indulged in 2 cake cuttings: one with a stunning multi-tiered cake complete with sugar flowers, and another with Eric’s cake celebrating his love for the Chicago Cubs. After all the dancing and celebrating, Emelie and Eric made their way to their getaway limo amidst a shower of confetti and cheers. Our favorite moment was when they stopped and took the time to dole out hugs and whispered words to as many loved ones as they could before they drove off. The Proposal: Emelie shared:  "We met at Oklahoma State University in November 2008. Over the next year (2009) we became very close friends, and became officially a couple on January 23rd 2010. Eric and I got engaged on January 23rd 2015… Exactly 5 years to the day that we started dating. He proposed at The Summit Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After that we had a private dinner together, and to my surprise our family and friends were down stairs waiting for us to have a surprise engagement party. It was an amazing night! :)" Emelie and Eric: Your strength in your faith and your devotion to one another is on a level to which we should all strive. Your smiling faces and the way that you treasure all of your loved ones that celebrated your day with you is heartwarming and inspiring. Thank you for letting us share your day with you and allowing us to create something that will help you to relive this day over and over again. The Lodge At Bridal Veil Falls // The Newly-Webbs // Maddi and Dalton, the Locket

“Have a happy life and share your happiness with others. Happiness is difficult to give away and it keeps coming back to you” These hallowed words were memorialized by Maddi’s late grandfather and revisited by her brother on the happiest day of her life. These words are ones that we all can live by each and everyday of our own lives. With the quiet murmur of a waterfall and surrounded by their family and friends, Maddi and Dalton said “I do” on May 20th at the Lodge at Bridal Veil Falls. The venue, located in Spring Branch, is a natural retreat deep in Texas Hill Country. Will captivating waterfalls and spectacular views, Maddi and Dalton couldn’t have chosen a more perfect location for their wedding.   Her stunning dress was a work of art as it hung in a mirrored room and completely breathtaking once Maddi put it on. Her bridesmaids chanted her name and cheered when they finally saw her for the first time! Their love of their two dogs was apparent as they both made an appearance - as a cake topper! Since they love being outdoors and spending time with their pups, it only made sense.   Maddi, Dalton, and their guests were tearing up the dance floor well into the evening.  The bride and groom left their sweet celebration by charging through a sea of sparklers! The Proposal: Maddi told us:  "A typical weekday, we decided to have a date night. We took the dogs to a lake nearby and had a picnic. After munching a bit and drinking some wine, we got up to throw the ball for the dogs. He started getting all mushy, saying a bunch of sweet things. I immediately got awkward, feeling like I need to say a bunch of sweet things (I may have interrupted him a bit to get in a few niceties). But then he got down on one knee. He was disappointed (but not surprised) that I responded by putting my hands on my hips in an "are you joking?" manner instead of doing the typical hands cover the mouth in shock move. Disclaimer, he has definitely joked about proposing before! Anyhoo, I realized he was for real, so of course I said yes. We hug and kiss, then I heard screaming from behind some far away bushes. He enlisted Kayla Patterson and a couple other close friends to stake us out and take pictures of the whole thing. They came running over with the camera and some champagne. It was pretty awesome!" Maddi + Dalton, Thank you for allowing us to share your day with you! The laughter and jovial nature of all your friends and family was a heartwarming experience and one that we’ll never forget! Red Corral Ranch /// #kissinlogs /// Jessie + Taylor, the full film

What we truly love about Jess and Taylor is the way they appreciate sweet, intimate moments - quality time spent together going to the dog park with their pups and simply catching up with one another on the couch at the end of the day. They spent time on little details for the wedding day as well, from handmade road signs directing guests to different locations to the lovingly handwritten letters that they wrote to their wedding party. You’re as sweet as Tennessee Whiskey. When asked about musical preferences and genres they would like represented in their final film, Jessica and Taylor didn’t hesitate in their response: anything similar to Chris Stapleton. A musician known for his deep voice and highly relatable songs referencing the simple things in life like whiskey and love, we can see why Jess and Taylor enjoy his music so much. For their edit, we chose music by Matt McCloskey and Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors. Drew Holcomb is a well known Nashville artist who often sings duets with his beautiful wife, Ellie Holcomb. Their style is lilting, simple, and pure country. Red Corral Ranch in Wimberley is like an oasis in the desert - filled with rolling hills, lush greenery, spectacular views, and twinkling lights that would make the night sky jealous. It was here that Jess and Taylor chose to say “I do” amongst their closest family and friends. The sunset filled ceremony was punctuated with a visit by some local peacocks who only squawked at some pretty perfectly timed moments—as if they were cheering in agreement with Jess and Taylor being announced husband and wife! Afterwards, guests gathered at the big red barn to eat dinner. They were surprised to find they had to compete against other tables of guests and sing for their supper—in order to be released to the buffet, they had to serenade the bride and groom with a song about love. Their fun songs and animated performances only served to prove that Jess and Taylor are surrounded by a whole cloud of joyous friends who reflect their own humor and love for life. Jessica and Taylor, We hope your film helps you re-live these moments with joy and delight, and that the memory of this moment when you shared your vows will continue to stir your affections and strengthen you for all of your future days together. love, the Mason Jar Team Ceremony/Reception: Red Corral Ranch ||  || @redcorral Planner: Westcott Weddings ||  || @westcottweddings Photographer: Mint Photography ||  || @lovemintphotography Florist: Bristol Lane ||  ||@bristollane Caterer: Gourmet Gals || || @gourmetgalscatering Ceremony Music: Better Halves || Tables/Chairs: Premiere ||  || @premiereeventsaustin Napkins: Marquee ||  || @marqueeatx Vintage Rentals: Loot Vintage Rentals ||  || @lootvintage Makeup: LoLa ||  || @lolabeautyatx DJ: Altared Weddings ||  || @altared_weddings Cake: Sweet Treats ||  || @sweettreetsbakery

Canyonwood Ridge Wedding /// No Words To Describe /// Carolina + Mark, the Locket

Perfection is all around us, but there are few (if any) things more perfect than a Hill Country sunset. The way the light changes creating a beautiful watercolored masterpiece as the sun sinks below the horizon is a truly picturesque moment only made better when sharing a frame with two stunning newlyweds. We were lucky enough to capture this moment (and many others!) at Carolina and Mark’s Hill Country wedding. Set deep in Dripping Springs, Texas’ very own wedding capital, Canyonwood Ridge is a unique presence with its sprawling grounds and unequivocal scenic backdrops sure to make any filmmaker smile. With a couple like Carolina and Mark (who say that traveling is one of their favorite things to do together), we can see why they decided on their venue! They spent the morning prepping at Omni Barton Creek where Carolina was able to surprise Mark with a gift: a gorgeous new watch that he was able to wear for their big day. Carolina looked stunning in her mermaid style gown that featured intricate detailing on the long sleeves and illusion-style back. Each detail of their day was carefully and thoughtfully planned, from the flowers at the ceremony to their beautifully choreographed first dance to Celine Dion’s “The Power of Love.” Mark even had his very own groom’s cake representing his love for the New England Patriots! The party continued on into the night after rousing speeches from several loved ones including one from Mark’s brother, Matthew, who teased him for choosing to get married on the day after his birthday. Carolina + Mark, We couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful day for two beautiful people. The laughter and merriment enjoyed by all of your friends and family is a tribute to the love they have for y’all and the love that you have for one another. Nautical Wedding at Lost Mission /// One Less Fish In The Sea /// Lindsey + Cooper, the intro

It all began with a beer. Like all great love stories, Lindsey and Cooper’s meet-cute was an unexpected one. They met 12 years ago at Wurstfest and as Lindsey said in her vows, “From the moment I saw those curls, I knew you were my other half.” But they bond over more that just beer and curls. Their mutual love for adventure, fishing, family and (of course) one another is truly inspiring. May 14th was a perfect day for a wedding. At Lost Mission in Spring Branch, Texas, Lindsey and Cooper said “I do” among their family and closest friends. They surrounded themselves with beautiful, personal effects and created moments that were incredible to capture on film: from  the stunning heirloom ring from Lindsey’s Great-Grandmother that 6 others have worn to the lovely gift exchange between Lindsey and Cooper. Their love of the coast and fishing together was apparent in both cakes adorned with stunning seashells and incredibly realistic fish! Her bridesmaids wore matching coral colored dresses with blue sandals that were each personalized (and super comfy!) The reception was filled with laughter, love, and tons of wine! One of their closest friends who officiated the ceremony owns a winery in the Napa Valley.  Lindsey’s parents gushed over their daughter and new son. Larry Taylor, Lindsey’s father, even mentioned how Cooper knew exactly when to ask for his daughter’s hand: during a fishing trip when the fish were biting extremely well! South Congress Hotel /// Hindu Fusion Wedding /// Shonu + Julio, the extended Heirloom Film

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing There is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass The world is too full to talk about.” -Rumi Gina Whittington, the talented designer and planner behind The Whitt Experience, called us early last year and informed us that she had a client that looking for something special for their wedding film. Shonu and Julio are a sweet, funny, and community-focused couple that met and fell in love along the course of a campaign trail. Because they had so many people coming in from all over the world, they didn't want their wedding film to feel like a music video--they wanted it to truly reflect the personalities and interactions they would share with family and friends over the course of the weekend. We crafted this custom, extended length wedding video for them - focusing on documentary style moments that highlight the joy, the goofiness, and the sweet moments celebrated in the finest locations in Austin's arts district. With events at Hotel Saint Cecilia, Sway, and South Congress Hotel, the Austin vibe was just as strong as the couple's devotion to their South Indian and Mexican heritages. Friday evening, the families gathered for the Sangeet at Shonu and Julio’s favorite local restaurant - Sway. As guests arrived, they were greeted by beautiful visuals of greenery draped across low hanging chandeliers presiding over large family style tables. They were served an exquisite array of appetizers and foods, including pineapple miange, satay grilled eggplant, and tom aha gai. Dinner included green curry with tofu, pad thai jay, miso sweet mash, and charred asparagus with harissa. The night was full of many delightful moments, heartfelt speeches from the Bride’s relatives and a surprise dance performance in honor of Shonu and Julio. The wedding day was cheery and bright, and as cars busily bustled by past the South Congress Hotel, Julio, accompanied by his baraat (wedding party), arrived to the ceremony on a scooter for the traditional Milni. Greeted by the bride’s “sisters,” Shonu’s dearest friends and female cousins escorted Julio carrying pots on their heads and Julio’s family was greeted ceremoniously by Shonu’s family. The Hindu ceremony was often conducted in the sacred language of Sanskrit (along with English), linking Shonu and Julio to one another and reinforcing their connection to their families, ancestors, friends, nature, the planets, and the creative forces of the universe. The ritual stage (Mandap) represents the universe, and Shonu and Julio's was designed with beautiful white drawn curtains laced with a garland filled with vibrant purple, blue, and fuchsia flowers. During the Mala Vinimaya, Shonu and Julio exchanged garlands as a form of deep and mutual respect. Mayor John Destefano (at whose campaign the couple met) gave a moving welcome to the gathering, and later that evening, he treated the crowd to a hilarious toast that recounted the political and romantic journey of the couple.  Their Hindu ceremony was conducted both in the sacred language of Sanskrit and English for the attending crowd. The Mandap was decorated with beautiful garlands and stood tall throughout the entire evening - a reminder of the ceremony that linked Shonu and Julio to one another. As guests entered the reception, they walked through a psychedelic video wall that featuring Julio’s spirit animal, a wolf. The groom’s cake was that of a large snake, based off of a traditional South American artifact that Julio had seen - and connected with - in a museum on his travels. Guests heard more beautiful speeches from the couple’s family, and our favorite highlight of the evening was watching Shonu and Julio cheerfully dance to “Me and Julio down by the school yard” in front of their family and friends. Witnessing such pure moments of joy, love, and celebration in the lives of others is one of the biggest perks of this job, and we are privileged to be reminded weekly of the best parts of humanity. Shonu and Julio, Your family's delight at your union is so apparent as they speak of you with respect and with joy.  We hope you always continue to enjoy life's journey together, and we join the Mayor in wishing you a life of love for forever and 100 years. Southwest School of Art /// #Behreningdownthehouse /// Caroline + Brandon – the Locket

"Rainbows, unicorns and bubblies." That’s how the officiant described the feeling at Caroline and Brandon’s wedding, and we couldn’t agree more. There’s a special time of day just before sunset that cinematographers and photographers call “golden hour." It isn’t really an hour, and depending on the time of year, it can be as few as 15 minutes. At this wedding, it seemed to last for hours—the daylight shimmering through the historic windows of the Southwest School of Art cast a golden glow across Caroline and Brandon entire day. We hope you enjoy their wedding film, and may it fill you with the joy of rainbows, unicorns, and bubblies. :) Caroline describes Brandon as strong, loyal, optimistic, and kind, and Brandon told us that Caroline is spiritual, compassionate and intentional. They love spending time together outdoors — especially hiking the Austin greenbelt! Caroline told us that she was looking forward to the holiness of the wedding ceremony and the FUN she would share with family and friends at the reception. As Caroline and her bridesmaids arrived at the Southwest School of Art, their voices echoed with excitement over the sounds of the Riverwalk just below. When they walked in to see Caroline's dress for the first time, their awe filled the bridal room. Caroline received a heartfelt note from her groom, and after putting on her wedding dress, her grandmother presented her with family heirlooms: a garter and bible that she had carried in her own wedding. Caroline and Brandon shared their first look in the courtyard, and afterwards they chatted eagerly enjoying the beauty of the day. Brandon said the weather was just what they had prayed for and Caroline agreed, saying that it was indeed perfect. The ceremony featured beautiful performances of some of Caroline and Brandon’s favorite songs, including Phil Wickham’s “You’re Beautiful.” We were so happy to be able to license this particular song for their wedding film, along with the song that Caroline and Brandon chose for their first dance: “Forever Like That” by Ben Rector. The celebration ended on a high note that truly embraced the festive spirit of San Antonio — Intensity Entertainment kept the dance floor hopping as guests shook maracas and donned flower crowns and sombreros. As the couple made their grand exit through a tunnel of friends throwing confetti, they drove away in a historic baby blue and white 1957 Chevy Bellaire. The Proposal: How did it happen? Caroline told us: "Brandon surprised me by taking me to our favorite date spot in San Antonio at the Pearl on Sunday August 23rd. He had a table set up with pictures of us and flowers. I was so surprised! I had my hair in a messy bun and converse on with a dress that didn't match- Brandon said when he first saw how I was dressed, he knew I didn't know he was about to propose :) My sister and my 2 best friends were waiting around the corner, and our close family/friends surprised me back at my house. It was a very special and intimate day! It was simple and sweet, just like Brandon. He wanted it to be about US, and not about the pomp and circumstance. We will cherish that day forever!”   Venue: Southwest School of Art  @southwestschoolofart Planner: Robin Waters with Wedding Planners Inc  Photographer: David Sixt Flowers: Trinity Flowers  @trinityflowers_ Bride's wedding Dress: Julian Gold @juliangoldsa Catering: Anne Marie’s Catering  @annemariescatering

The Bayou Club /// #ToHaveAndToHastings /// Kellie + Harry – the Memory Tin

One can find inspiration in many different ways - the melody heard on the radio, the art on the side of a coffeeshop, or in Kellie and Harry’s beautiful love story. Having met at a summer camp just after high school, Kellie and Harry have been sharing one another’s life for 7 years. Kellie is energetic, happy, and she has "moves-that-kill” on the dance floor. When we asked Harry what drew him to her, he mentioned that not only is she the most fun person to be with, but he admires her work ethic and how she cares for others through her job as an ER trauma nurse. Kellie told us that Harry is positive, loving, and enthusiastic—especially about golf and Texas A&M football! Spending the day filming their wedding at the stunning Church of St. John the Divine and Bayou Club, it was evident that this love story would be one to remember. They started their day off with a heartfelt letter exchange that brought smiles to both of their faces. Such a thoughtful way to begin the most important day of their lives! Kellie also shared a sweet “first look” moment with her dad in front of the church’s angular floral front doors. The ceremony venue was chosen because it is Harry’s childhood church home where his family remains closely connected. Kellie’s bridesmaids wore dresses in a beautiful royal blue (with the smart addition of pockets!), and Harry’s groomsmen wore embroidered southwestern style suspenders hidden under their formal tuxedo jackets. The stunning reception at the Houston Bayou Club, draped in blues and blush golds, was a lively and raucous occasion: rife with crazy dance moves from the wedding party and even Kellie herself! Since they are avid A&M fans (as well as alumni) the night wouldn’t have been complete without a rendition of the Aggie War Song performed by guests and members of Kellie’s sorority — Chi-O. The fun of the party seemed to just fly by, with late night snacks and fun sunglasses and beaded headbands for everyone on the dance floor. As the last song from Professor D soared through the air, guests celebrated with confetti sticks that showered the dance floor in a beautiful shower of color. As guests made their way outside for the send-off, they were handed game-day towels.  The couple left the Bayou Club through a tunnel of waving Aggie towels and a golf cart decorated in beautiful script signage. The Proposal Harry proposed to Kellie around 1am on December 18th, 2014. Harry wanted to surprise Kellie, so he showed up to the ER in a tuxedo and popped the question in the SHOCK TRAUMA ROOM! He even brought their dog, Shiner, to the Hospital (wearing a bowtie, of course!) to be a part of the proposal. After all the excitement, Kellie still had to go back to work for the remaining two hours of her shift, but was on cloud 9 and 100% surprised! She thought that it was absolutely perfect in every way! Kellie and Harry, We cannot express to you how honored we feel to have been able to share your special day. South Congress Hotel /// Austin Fusion Wedding /// Shonu + Julio, the intro

When you look back at your life, how do you most want to remember the moments? Close your eyes and think of late nights spent playing board games with family or telling hilarious stories with friends. Think of goofy faces, happy dancing, quoting your favorite movies, and hosting gatherings filled with loved ones. Think of your cousins and children and the cute things that kids say (and how they express their thoughts so loudly!). Think of hugs, and smiles, and genuine joy as your parents watch you with pride. These are the moments and memories that Shonu and Julio spoke of as they shared their vision for their wedding film with us. After looking around for the best wedding videographer, they firmly decided that they preferred a wedding video keepsake that would capture their family, their friends, and the kids they loved in a way that helped them to re-live their wedding weekend. Julio spoke of wanting to remember the voices and conversations in a natural and authentic way. Capturing voices and personalities on camera is one of our strongest values as keepsake cinematographers, so we were excited to hear how committed Shonu and Julio were to having that element play an important role in their wedding film. “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing There is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass The world is too full to talk about.” -Rumi Shonu and Julio met working on a campaign together and their shared passion for civic service soon blossomed into an affection for one another. Now settled in Austin, TX, the couple’s cultural fusion wedding was a genuine reflection of who they are, including traditions celebrating their heritages from India and Mexico and their deep delight in hosting evenings filled with good friends and good conversation. Each wedding venue was selected with the utmost care in order to give their guests a true taste of the vivid South Austin vibe. The Mendhi began on Friday afternoon at Hotel Saint Cecilia. Located just off of South Congress, the canopy of a towering live oak tree offers shade to the entire lawn of this eclectic hotel, which is well known for its neon “Soul” sign that overlooks the pool and the amazing retro-chic décor gracing its interiors. Rustic wooden farm tables were laid with exquisite bright garlands and surrounded by modern brass chairs. Plush lounges were set up across the lawn so that guests could enjoy lunch and visit while local artists applied beautiful henna to the hands of guests, including many happy children! Later that evening, the families gathered for the Sangeet at Shonu and Julio’s favorite local restaurant - Sway. The night was full of many delightful moments, like heartfelt speeches from the Bride’s relatives and a surprise dance performance in honor of Shonu and Julio. The wedding day was cheery and bright, and as cars busily bustled by along the South Congress Hotel, Julio and his baraat (wedding party) arrived to the ceremony on a scooter for the traditional Milni. Greeted by the bride’s “sisters,” Shonu’s dearest friends and female cousins escorted Julio carrying pots on their heads and Julio’s family was greeted ceremoniously by Shonu’s family. As guests entered the reception, they walked through a psychedelic video wall that featured Julio’s spirit animal, a wolf. The groom’s cake was that of a large snake, based off of a traditional Southern American artifact that Julio had seen - and connected with - in a museum on his travels. Shonu and Julio, Thank you for the way you cherish one another and your community. Your compassion, generosity, and joy are obvious proof of beauty in the world, and gives those who witness your lives one more reason to believe in love.
